Alanya

The earliest known name of Alanya was Korakesium. The region has been under the rule of various empires, including the Persians, Romans, Byzantines, and Seljuks. A significant turning point in Alanya's history came in the 13th century when the Seljuk Sultan Alaeddin Keykubad captured the city in 1221. He renamed it Alaiye and made it an important naval base and winter capital. During this period, many of Alanya's iconic landmarks were built, including the Red Tower (Kızıl Kule), the shipyard (Tersane), and the Alanya Castle. After the Seljuk period, Alanya came under Ottoman rule and continued to be an important port. In 1935, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the founder of modern Turkey, visited the city and officially renamed it Alanya. Today, Alanya is a popular tourist destination known for its historical sites, beautiful beaches, and vibrant atmosphere.
